#362 A gentle rainy-day gesture
About this episode
This year really feels like the rainy season. We’ve had many days of gentle, steady rain. Umbrellas are essential during this season, but the other day I learned a new word on the radio: kasa kashige. It refers to the small gesture of tilting your umbrella when passing someone on a narrow street so that you don’t bump into them. It’s something we do without even thinking about it, but I thought it was a beautiful word that somehow carries a sense of fragility and grace. 【Today’s words】 しとしと / We use it to describe rain falling gently and steadily. 傘かしげ (かさかしげ) / tilting your umbrella to avoid bumping into someone すれ違う (すれちがう) / to pass by someone 傾ける (かたむける) / to tilt, to lean 無意識に (むいしきに) / unconsciously 儚さ (はかなさ) / transience, fragility, fleeting beauty ★This post is also available on the broadcast channel (Japanese daily tips) of my Instagram. 【https://www.instagram.com/channel/AbbOi9lyhNtGwo6A/?igsh=enhqNGRyajhobnZ5】
