About this episode

#373 Four hours to pass, five hours to fail Have you ever heard the expression “Four hours to pass, five hours to fail”? It’s a saying for students preparing for entrance exams. It means that if you sleep only four hours, you’ll pass, but if you sleep five hours, you’ll fail. Now, I definitely think it’s much better to get more sleep, but when I was in high school, I truly believed it. Summer vacation is an important time for Japanese students because they can spend more time studying for their entrance exams. Every summer, I find myself thinking, “Good luck, everyone who’s studying for exams!” 【Today’s words】 四当五落 (しとうごらく) / “Four hours to pass, five hours to fail” (an old saying for exam students) 受験生 (じゅけんせい) / student preparing for entrance exams 受かる (うかる) / to pass (an exam) 落ちる (おちる) / to fail (an exam) 時期 (じき) / period, a certain time We often use “period” to talk about a certain time in life or during the year. ★This post is also available on the broadcast channel (Japanese daily tips) of my Instagram. 【https://www.instagram.com/channel/AbbOi9lyhNtGwo6A/?igsh=enhqNGRyajhobnZ5】
