About this episode
What else would you call it is Poached Galleries ' new group exhibition that spans various mediums from painting, sculpture, installation, photography, and more. The show circulates around these ideas of intimacy, delving into its complex nature. Unfolding the beauty that intimacy itself holds, but also exploring its more uncomfortable underbelly - an intimacy that can at times hold this visceral and erosive nature. Maya caught up with two artists from the show, Sinag Fernandez and Anna Neumann. Sinag is a Tāmaki-based artist and artsworker from the Philippines. Her painting practice delves into the exploration of the body, in particular, an investigation into the haptic as an essential mechanism for divine belief. Anna Neumann is a Tāmaki-based painter and textile artist. Her work explores the body through this inward lens. Treating her paintings as flesh itself, allowing the materiality of the substrate to record the very movements of the pigment across its crumpled and creased surface. Resulting in a body of work that holds its histories at its forefront.
