About this episode
New York City is overhauling its trash management, shifting from sidewalk bags to containers, a significant improvement according to John Ketcham. New York is also issuing 1,500 cannabis licenses, widely opening its recreational market. Plus, Times Square hosts Good Riddance Day, where New Yorkers symbolically erase bad memories with a magician’s help. Finally, WNYC is revisiting top stories of 2023, including "Imminent Danger: One Doctor and a Trail of Injured Women," a series about Dr. Thomas J. Byrne, an OB/GYN whose license was revoked in the early 90s after injuries and fatalities to babies under his care, but later regained it despite his troubling track record. WNYC’s investigative editor Christopher Werth reflects on the series with Michael Hill.
