Rob McConnell Interviews - AUDREY KLEIN - Skills for Students' Success
About this episode
Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes Audrey Klein, an educator, reading specialist and author whose career has focused on helping young people develop the practical academic abilities they need to become more confident and independent learners. At the time of her X Zone appearance, Klein had spent more than 20 years teaching reading, writing, organizational and study skills to students ranging from preschool through college, working with more than a thousand children through classroom teaching and private tutoring. Klein holds a Master's degree in reading, and her teaching philosophy emphasizes something sometimes overlooked in education: students need to understand not simply what to learn, but how to learn. Her lessons were designed around individual thinking and learning styles, with particular attention given to transferring academic skills into everyday situations. Her Skills for Students' Success program was also developed into online classes corresponding with chapters of her instructional material. During her conversation with Rob McConnell, Audrey explores the building blocks of successful learning: reading comprehension, writing, organization, study habits, time management and personal responsibility. Students can possess considerable intelligence yet still struggle academically when they haven't developed effective methods for organizing assignments, preparing for examinations, understanding what they read or managing their time. Klein's student-centred approach recognizes that children don't necessarily process information in exactly the same way. Join Rob McConnell and Audrey Klein on The 'X' Zone Radio Show for a practical conversation about education and helping students reach their potential. What makes one study technique successful for one student but ineffective for another? How can parents help without doing the work for their children? Can organization and study skills actually be taught? And perhaps most importantly, can teaching children how to learn give them skills that remain valuable long after they've left the classroom? Audrey Klein's appearance is documented in The 'X' Zone guest archives as “Skills for Students' Success.” Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-x-zone-radio-tv-show--1078348/support .
