Rob McConnell Interviews - JEFF PECKMAN - The Extraterrestrial Ballot

Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes Jeff Peckman, Denver entrepreneur, activist and UFO disclosure advocate who took the extraterrestrial question somewhere few UFO researchers had taken it before—directly to the voting booth. Beginning in 2008, Peckman spearheaded an effort to establish an official Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission within the City and County of Denver, Colorado, arguing that local government should be prepared to examine information concerning UFOs, alleged extraterrestrial visitation and the possible implications of contact. Peckman's campaign eventually became Denver Initiative 300, which appeared on the November 2010 ballot. The proposal called for a seven-member commission that would gather and make available information concerning alleged extraterrestrial activity and consider issues involving the health, safety and cultural awareness of Denver residents in the event of possible encounters with extraterrestrial intelligent beings or their vehicles. Peckman successfully gathered the thousands of valid signatures necessary to put his unconventional proposal before Denver voters. Although Peckman maintained that evidence of extraterrestrial visitation justified such a commission, those claims were—and remain—highly controversial. In 2008 he attracted international attention by promoting video footage that he believed depicted an extraterrestrial being, while skeptics questioned whether the figure could have been a puppet or another conventional object. Initiative 300 ultimately went before voters in 2010 and was decisively rejected, with approximately 82% voting against it. Peckman nevertheless continued advocating for UFO/UAP disclosure and still identifies the Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission campaign as a major part of his public work.
