Rob McConnell Interviews - WILLIAM GLADSTONE - The Implications of 2012

Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes William Gladstone, author, literary agent, publisher, filmmaker and researcher who became known for his exploration of Mayan traditions and the meaning attributed to December 21, 2012. Gladstone attended Yale College and earned a graduate degree in cultural anthropology from Harvard University. His career also included work as the original researcher for the television special In Search of Ancient Mysteries, hosted by Rod Serling. The 'X' Zone guest archives document his appearance with Rob specifically as “The Implications of 2012.” William Gladstone Gladstone explored the 2012 phenomenon through his novel The Twelve, which follows a character named Max on a worldwide spiritual journey connected to twelve individuals and the supposed significance of December 21, 2012. The story travels through Jerusalem, Athens, London, India, Istanbul, China, Japan and Mexico as its characters search for the meaning behind what was popularly described as the end of a great cycle in the Maya calendar. Google Books During this conversation, Rob and William examine the extraordinary fascination that surrounded 2012. Was December 21 destined to bring destruction, or had the popular “Mayan apocalypse” interpretation misunderstood the significance attributed to the calendar? Gladstone approached 2012 less as a prediction of literal planetary destruction and more through ideas involving human consciousness, spirituality, transformation and the possibility of a new era for humanity. His later novel The Power of Twelve explicitly portrayed 2012 not as civilization's end but as a potential turning point toward a more humanistic and less violent existence.
