Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes the late William H. Kennedy, investigative author and researcher whose controversial work examined Satanism, occultism, ritual-abuse allegations, secret societies and institutional corruption. Kennedy was the author of Lucifer's Lodge: Satanic Ritual Abuse in the Catholic Church, published by Sophia Perennis in 2004, as well as Satanic Crime: A Threat in the New Millennium. In Lucifer's Lodge, Kennedy investigated the documented Catholic clergy sexual-abuse crisis while advancing a much more controversial theory: that some cases could have involved organized Satanic or occult practices operating within portions of the Church. Kennedy discussed priests accused or convicted of abuse, institutional secrecy and historical occult movements while drawing upon the work and allegations of figures including Father Malachi Martin, Father Charles Fiore and Father Alfred Kunz. Kennedy's claims of an organized Satanic network within the Catholic Church go substantially beyond what has been established by investigations of clergy sexual abuse and should therefore be understood as his theory rather than proven historical fact. Kennedy also revisited the notorious “Satanic Panic” of the 1980s and 1990s, when sensational allegations of widespread ritual abuse swept across North America and contributed to false accusations and wrongful prosecutions. Rather than accepting every Satanic-abuse allegation, Kennedy argued that the excesses and discredited cases of that era should not automatically cause investigators to dismiss every allegation involving ritualistic elements. His research consequently occupied a highly controversial intersection of documented institutional abuse, disputed testimony, occult history, conspiracy allegations and religious belief.
