Rob McConnell Interviews - WILLIAM MURTHA - Dying For A Change

Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes William L. Murtha, author, speaker and transformational thinker whose remarkable survival story became the basis of his book Dying for a Change: Survival, Hope and the Miracle of Choice. Murtha's life changed dramatically after he was swept from his bicycle and out to sea by a massive freak wave off the coast of Britain. Battling freezing water and severe hypothermia, he became convinced that he was going to die. As Murtha lost consciousness, he says he experienced an extraordinary near-death encounter in which pivotal moments from his life returned to him and he entered into what he describes as a conversation with a “Higher Presence.” The experience forced him to confront his fear of death as well as unresolved emotions, relationships and choices from his past. Against extraordinary odds, Murtha survived. His rescue was later featured on the BBC television series 999, and he subsequently described the ordeal as the event that completely redirected his life. Rather than returning to life as it had been, Murtha says the experience caused a fundamental change in his values, priorities and sense of purpose. He left the business he had founded and devoted himself to writing and exploring personal and social transformation. His later work included the global 100 Words project, through which he sought ideas about humanity's future from hundreds of thinkers, activists and change-makers. Murtha has also spoken about changes frequently reported after near-death experiences, including altered priorities, increased sensitivity, renewed creativity and a stronger desire to contribute something meaningful to the world.
